Use of MRI for Quantitative Imaging and Tissue Sciences

The Section on Quantitative Imaging and Tissue Sciences (SQITS) is dedicated to inventing and developing quantitative MRI biomarkers to follow key transport processes in normal and abnormal development, disease, degeneration, and trauma, motivated by fundamental research into the basis of functional properties of brain tissue and extracellular matrix (ECM).

Examples of possible summer projects include:

  • Developing Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) to model, measure, and map brain stiffness properties in vivo non-invasively
  • Developing brain parcellation methods that use MRI data to distinguish cortical layers, columns, and areas
  • Performing MR measurements of water exchange across cell membranes to assess cell vitality and metabolism
  • Using a portable, low-field MRI scanner to develop pediatric neuroimaging applications.
