RADx Tech: Advancing COVID-19 Diagnostic Technology
Learn how NIBIB’s Point of Care network has mobilized engineers and innovators across the country to create different types of tests for use in a variety of settings and communities to help overcome the COVID-19 global crisis.
RADx Tech and POCTRN
RADx Tech aims to bring accurate and easy-to-use COVID diagnostic tests to all Americans. NIBIB’s Point of Care Technologies Research Network, or POCTRN is one of the tools in NIH’s plan to accomplish this goal.

How Does an MRI Work?
MRIs use the energy released from protons to image soft tissues in the body.
How Does a CT Scan Work?
CT images are more detailed than conventional x-ray images. Image slices that CT scans produce can be 2 or 3 dimensional and can reveal abnormal structures or help the physician plan and monitor treatments.
How Does a PET Scan Work?
A PET scan uses radioactive tracers to create 3D images of the body. The isotopes produces small particles called positrons, which interact with surrounding electrons. The resulting photons is detected by the PET scanner and translated into an image through computer processing.
How Do X-rays Work?
X-rays were one of the first forms of biomedical imaging and NIBIB's 60 Seconds of Science explains how they create those images of bones we all know well.
